Your guide to moving to Kenley
Why Kenley is a good place to live
Just up the road from Purley in Croydon, Kenley sits on the edge of the hustle and bustle of greater London.
With its semi-rural vibes, living in Kenley feels as though you're miles away from the city chaos, despite good transport links to Central London.
Nature enthusiasts will fall for Kenley's green spaces, including Kenley Common and its vast array of paths perfect for cyclists, horse riders, and walkers.
The 30-minute train ride to Central London and good access to main roads make it ideal for easy commuting or spontaneous city escapades.
Also, with a rich mix of amenities nearby, from shops and eateries to gyms at neighbouring Purley and Croydon, Kenley promises everyday convenience right on your doorstep.
Homes in this Surrey suburb are often cheaper than those found in neighbouring Bromley and Lambeth, and the nearby Purley Downs Road area, known for its tree-lined streets and spacious properties, is popular with families.
What's Kenley famous for?
Kenley is famous for its RAF Kenley airfield, an iconic location that played a significant role in the Battle of Britain during World War II. It's the most complete surviving Battle of Britain fighter airfield, which has earned it national importance today.
Just down the road, the neoclassical Croydon Airport was Britain's first international airport, before Heathrow came onto the scene.
It opened in 1920, and handled more cargo, mail and passengers than any other UK airport at the time.
Kenley's aviation history has been picked up by movie directors, and it has provided the backdrop for flying scenes in 'Reach for the Sky' and 'Angels One Five'.
Things to do in Kenley
With plenty of lovely green spaces, nature fans will enjoy Kenley. The common is great for long strolls, cycles or horse rides, and a popular place for picnics.
At nearby Valley Way, there's a Vue Cinema, with foodie faves Frankie & Benny's, Nando's, Five Guys, McDonald's, Pizza Express and Burger King on its doorstep, while Purley Cross Retail Park has a supersized M&S, Next, Mamas & Papas and more.
Of course, the legendary Croydon Ikea is also a destination in itself.
For kids, at The Colonnades just down the road, there's mega indoor adventure play area Kidspace, trampolining fun at Oxygen, Pizza Hut, McDonald's and (for the grown ups) Costa.
Asian foodie fans will love Wing Yip, the UK's largest oriental food supplier, for finding all the ingredients you could possibly need to whip up a feast.
And for history buffs, you can step back in time to the World War II era at RAF Kenley Airfield, while sports enthusiasts are well catered for at the various sports clubs in nearby Purley.
