What's Kenley famous for?

Kenley is famous for its RAF Kenley airfield, an iconic location that played a significant role in the Battle of Britain during World War II. It's the most complete surviving Battle of Britain fighter airfield, which has earned it national importance today.

Just down the road, the neoclassical Croydon Airport was Britain's first international airport, before Heathrow came onto the scene.

It opened in 1920, and handled more cargo, mail and passengers than any other UK airport at the time.

Kenley's aviation history has been picked up by movie directors, and it has provided the backdrop for flying scenes in 'Reach for the Sky' and 'Angels One Five'.

Things to do in Kenley

With plenty of lovely green spaces, nature fans will enjoy Kenley. The common is great for long strolls, cycles or horse rides, and a popular place for picnics.
