What's Farringdon famous for?

Opened in 1863 as part of the world's first underground railway, Farringdon station is famous for being one of the oldest surviving underground stations in the world.

The neighbourhood is also home to the ancient Smithfield Meat Market and (clubbers will be pleased to learn) the world-renowned Fabric London nightclub.

University College London is based here, attracting students to the area, and the nearby Barbican Arts Centre hosts theatrical and classical music performances, as well as blockbuster movies and art house films at its cinema.

Visit Smithfield Market, rich in history as London's biggest meat market, the meat sellers are now relocating to Dagenham to avoid congestion in London, as the Museum of London prepares to move in, in 2025.

Impress your taste buds with British cuisine at the St. John Restaurant or swing by Ibérica Farringdon for an authentic Spanish wine bar experience.

Explore the Museum of the Order of Saint John or immerse yourself in contemporary dance performances held at the Sadler's Wells Theatre.
