When we first visited Tachbrook cottage in 2013, it was love at first sight!
It was quaint and quirky and we liked the location and the history - the cottage started life as part of manor house, initially as a stable for horses 200 years ago and and then a humble cottage for the workers about 100 years ago.
The cottage is a hidden oasis, tucked back from the road, but within easy reach of town, the train station and motorways. We have a parade of shops 5 mins walk with Sainsbury's, a chemist, a charity shop, hairdresser, off license and an excellent fish and chip shop.
Our garden is child and dog friendly and also often visited by a variety of wildlife.
We have a fenced off area outside the back door for children to play or to have BBQs. The rest of the garden is abundant with roses and other flowers. Despite being quite large, the garden is fairly easy to maintain, as most of the flower beds are covered with weed control fabric and bark. It is a great garden for growing fruit and vegetables - there are apples, pear, quince, plum and damson trees and two raised beds at the side of the house for growing vegetables - currently growing are beans, sweet peppers, courgette, tomatoes, and lettuces, there is even a very laden blueberry bush.
When we renovated in 2015/16, most of the house was rewired, re plumbed with new central heating pipe worker and boiler. The lounge and the bedrooms have cat 5 cabling and all the flat roofs were insulated and rubberised. The house is well insulated to keep energy costs low, plus we have an efficient wood burner in the lounge and all our windows and uPVC doors are Energy Rated A.
We kept some original features, such as some of the external brickwork and we had a fire surround made in the lounge from bricks from the original dwelling. A lovely feature in the lounge is a round stained glass window in the gable end, which brings in changing coloured light, as it works its way round the lounge walls on a sunny day.
Our house is great for parties, inside and out, with a large reception room and a large patio. We are far enough from boundaries not to disturb neighbours. We had saved part of the garden to build a large gazebo and outdoor kitchen, but family circumstances mean we need to move before we can complete that dream. We have spent a lot of time sitting in the garden, chatting by the pond or sharing a meal with friends on the terrace.
If you are looking for a location that is hidden away but close to amenities, that is here.

People often talk about trying to find a detached bungalow on a big plot close to the town centre and rarely, if ever, does one actually exist! It's an extremely unique home with bay windows everywhere you turn, and gardens unbelievably private considering how close to the town centre you are. The main bedroom is on the east facing side of the home which is perfect for waking up to the morning sun, and the kitchen & living accommodation are west and south so making the most of the sun throughout the day and into the afternoon. The garden is big enough that you're sure to find plenty of sun or shade throughout the day to suit.

Tachbrook Cottage is squirrelled away just off Boyn Hill Road and is just under a mile to the train station where you have direct trains into Paddington in under 20 minutes, or now the addition of the Elizabeth "Lizzy" Line on the London Underground as well. Road networks are also plentiful with the M4 just a couple of minutes drive away and access in the neighbouring towns of Windsor & Marlow within 15 minutes drive. There's an abundance of countryside, nature reserves and National Trust Land on the doorstep as well as numerous pubs, restaurants and cafes.
