As you approach the property at the ground floor level, the impressive double-width front door welcomes you to the entrance hall. To your left is the impressive games rooms, which has huge potential as a home gym, kitchen/dining space, home cinema or perhaps even an indoor pool. Opposite is a guest room with space for a double bed and views to the front. Next, is an internal room which was previously used as a cinema room. Heading through to the inner hall is the boiler room and store. You will also find the first flight of stairs and, of course, the 8-man lift which is used by the current owners every day. The owners also cleverly use it as a wine cellar storing many bottles of wines.
Heading up to the first floor you will find the stunning drawing room with high ceilings and a bank of windows flooding it with natural light. This incredible space is perfect for entertaining or large family gatherings with room for several sofas and a 12 seat dining table. French doors open out to the generous balcony, perfect for a drink of an evening or perhaps your morning coffee. Heading out of the drawing-room you will find, a modern fitted kitchen with plenty of cupboard space and worktops, an electric oven, hob and dishwasher. Opposite is the utility room with plumbing and space for the washing machine and tumble dryer. Completing this floor is the large pantry that is much needed for such a large home. Lastly a separate WC and shower room.
Hopping back in the lift and up to the second floor, which is where the current owners spend a lot of their time now their children have fled the nest. The secondary kitchen has plenty of cream cupboards, worktops, an oven, a hob, and space for a dishwasher. There are four double bedrooms on this floor, including the master with ensuite and stunning views of Malmesbury and the church spire, what a view to enjoy as you wake up. The family bathroom is also here along with a charming bright sitting room which offers a cosy feel and stunning views across to the river and trees beyond.
Back in the lift and up to the third floor, you will find the enormous attic space which is fantastic for all your storage needs or could be perfect for conversion to further living space if so desired. There is an office or further storeroom. From this floor, you can access the roof terrace which is quite simply stunning and you must visit to fully appreciate the magical views. From here is a secure gate allowing you access onto King's Wall which is the perfect stroll straight into Malmesbury's town centre. Further outdoor space can be found between the first and second floors. The owners have created a beautiful herbarium which currently is accessed by a ladder, but planning permission has been obtained to create a door.
We believe this house should be viewed to fully appreciate the possibilities and all it has to offer. A few possibilities to mention are, the potential for an extensive home office or an annexe, cross-generational living, and even the scope to create apartments (subject to planning) which would be ideal for rental opportunities!
Seller's thoughts
Tranquility has been more than just a house for us; it's been the heart of our family life for the past 25 years. From band practices to sleepovers, from youth group meetings to casual get-togethers, it has provided the perfect backdrop for countless memories.
Its unique layout, originally designed as a community meeting place, has allowed us to coexist harmoniously without disturbing each other. Whether the boys were jamming downstairs, I was entertaining in the drawing room, or my husband was working in his study, we could all enjoy our activities without interference.
The proximity to town amenities and nature walks has made Tranquility an ideal location for us. Despite being just a stone's throw away from shops, pubs, and restaurants, the peace and quiet within its walls have always been palpable.
Over the years, we've transformed the space, adding a beautiful garden area and a herbarium. Our granddaughter even gave the drawing room its own charming nickname, cementing its place as a magical sanctuary for our family.
One of our fondest memories is listening to the bell ringers practicing while enjoying supper together. It's moments like these that have made Tranquility feel truly special and irreplaceable.
As our family has grown and spread out, the house has adapted to accommodate our changing needs, with a kitchen on each floor and a lift for easy mobility. The games room on the ground floor has been a source of joy for both us and our grandchildren, providing endless hours of fun and laughter.
But as much as we've loved our time here, the pull of being closer to our family is strong. Saying goodbye to Tranquility will be bittersweet, as it has truly been a home unlike any other, living up to its name in every sense of the word.
